Curious About Counseling? You’re Not Alone.
I know reaching out can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first therapy session. This page is here to answer common questions, ease uncertainty, and help you feel informed, supported, and empowered to take the next step.
What Therapy Looks Like
Understand how sessions flow, what to expect as a client, and how we work together to meet your goals.
Getting Started
From scheduling and insurance to what you need to bring to your first session, here’s how to begin.
Our Approach
Explore the modalities we use, who we serve, and how we tailor therapy to fit your unique story and needs.
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is a gentle starting point. We’ll talk about what brought you in, your goals for therapy, and anything you feel comfortable sharing. You’re welcome to go at your own pace. There is no pressure to open up all at once; this space allows you to feel safe, seen, and supported.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy looks different for everyone. Some people come in for a few months to work through a specific challenge, while others stay longer for ongoing support and growth. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that fits your needs, and you are never locked in; you’re always in control of your journey.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy stays between us. The only exceptions are if there is a risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or if legally required (like in cases of abuse). I will always be transparent about any limits to confidentiality, so you feel informed and protected.
Do I need to know what to say or have a goal before starting?
Not at all. Many clients begin therapy unsure of where to start, and that’s okay. You don’t need a plan or perfect words, just a willingness to show up. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening beneath the surface and uncover what feels important to you.
Do you take insurance?
I currently do not accept insurance, but I am working to be in network with several insurance companies and will soon be able to receive it.
What kinds of therapy do you offer?
I use a flexible, integrative approach from several evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and SandTray Therapy. This allows me to adapt sessions to your unique needs and preferences.
Do you work with children or teens?
Yes. I offer therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. When working with younger clients, I use age-appropriate techniques such as play therapy and SandTray Therapy to help them express what they may not yet have the words to say.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. This allows time to offer the spot to another client. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee, but I understand that life happens, and we can talk through any emergencies or concerns.
Can I bring up trauma, grief, or things I’ve never told anyone?
Absolutely. This is a space where nothing is too “much” or too heavy. You are not alone, and you don’t have to carry it in silence. We will approach your story gently, at a pace that feels right for you, and I will be with you every step of the way.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work?
That’s more common than you might think. Sometimes it takes time to find the right fit. My approach is collaborative and personalized, and I’ll always check in with you to ensure our work feels helpful and supportive. Therapy should feel like a partnership, not a performance.
